Qawali Night 2025 - A Cultural Celebrations at HiAST

On the evening of February 2, 2025, HiAST College Hyderabad came alive with music, tradition, and student spirit. It was Qawali Night, a much-anticipated event that brought together students from 9th, 10th, and 1st-year inter batches for a night that blended cultural heritage with youthful energy. Events like this are exactly why HiAST continues to stand tall among the best schools in Hyderabad, Pakistan, not just for its academics but also for the way it nurtures a sense of community and identity in students.

The night kicked off in the open-air courtyard of the campus, beautifully decorated with draped canopies, hanging chandeliers, and floral arches. The atmosphere felt warm, even before the performances began. Students arrived in groups, dressed in traditional Eastern attire, with boys mostly wearing elegant black kurtas and girls in vibrant shalwar kameez suits and dupattas. The air was buzzing with excitement, the kind you feel when you just know something unforgettable is about to happen. The highlight of the evening was the soulful performance by the renowned Sufi Sheryaar Band, whose presence uplifted the entire Qawali Night experience. And then, as the rhythm picked up, the silence turned into cheers, claps, and students singing along, completely caught up in the energy of the moment.

The 9th and 10th-grade students at HiAST sat cross-legged on the carpets, fully immersed in the moment, clapping to the beat, singing along when familiar lines came up, and nodding along with wide smiles. Their attention is focused on the stage, where a group of qawwals (traditional Sufi musicians) perform. The stage is decorated with musical instruments like harmoniums and tablas, and behind the performers, a large LED screen displays a performer in bright traditional clothing. The ambiance is lively, with decorative lights and chandeliers adding a warm glow to the night. The event seems to celebrate music, tradition, and community, offering students a night of spiritual and cultural enrichment through the soulful art of qawali. One of the most lively and unforgettable moments of the night was when a group of boys, caught in the flow of the music and energy of the qawwali, formed a circle and began dancing together near the stage.

It wasn’t a planned performance; it was raw expression, students letting go of academic stress and fully living in the moment. Others cheered them on, some even joined in, and for a while, the night felt less like an event and more like a celebration shared by one big family. Moments like these are what make Qawali Night at HiAST so special, not just the music, but the connections and memories it creates among students. As the final echoes of the qawali faded into the night sky, the evening wrapped up on a warm and satisfying note with dinner waiting just around the corner. The crowd slowly made its way toward the dining area, still buzzing with the energy of the night. From early preparations to late-night wrap-up, the HiAST faculty played a central role in organizing every detail. They coordinated the seating arrangements, supervised student volunteers, ensured sound and lighting systems were perfectly set, and handled all logistical matters with calm professionalism. Want to be part of HiAST’s vibrant campus life?
