HiAST Founder (Dr. S. M. Qureshi (Late))

Dr. S M Qureshi graduated in Civil Engineering from NED College of engineering, in 1959 , obtained the degree of Master’s in structural Engineering from SEATO Graduate School of Engineering (now AIT),Bangkok, in 1965, the degree of  PhD from the University of Sheffield, UK in 1970. He was appointed as Founder Member (Science), Pakistan Science Foundation in 1974 and later appointed as pro -Vice Chancellor, Sindh University Engineering College in 1976, which he raised it to the level of University in March 1977, and he was appointed as the Founder Vice Chancellor of the new University named Mehran University of Engineering & Technology and served in that position more than 11 years and established it in two Campuses at Jamshoro and Nawabshah. The two Campuses are now established as independent universities. In 1989 he was appointed as Secretary to Government of Pakistan in that position he laid the foundation of Institute of Science & Technology (ISATOP) renamed SZABIST. By the end of 1994, he saw the establishment of COMSATS. He was elected as Vice Chairman, UN Commission on Science & Technology for Development (UNCSTD) and retired soon early in 1996.

                 During the period 1987 to 1996, Dr Qureshi remained Secretary to the Ministries and Divisions which included Secretary Education, Youth Affairs, Housing & Works, Zakat & Ushr beside discharging other additional responsibilities as Chairman University Grants Commission, Chairman, Pakistan Steel Foundation and Chairman, Pakistan Council for Science & Technology (PCST).He was appointed, on contract, as member/Secretary to the National Commission for Science & Technology (NCST) in 1999. In 2002 he was appointed Chairman, Charter Inspection & Evaluation Committee, Sindh- a position that he held for over a decade.

Ambassador/Justice ® Abdul Majeed Khanzada (Late) 1936-2014

After completing basic education at Hyderabad, Mr. Khanzada obtained the degree of Law from Karachi University. In a short time, climbing up the ladder, he became the President of the Bar and member of High Court Bar Managing Committee. In 1977, he was elected member of Provincial Assembly, Sindh. In 1989, he was assigned the coveted office of the Ambassador of Pakistan to Libya. Later, the President of Pakistan appointed him as Justice of Sindh High Court and in the twilight of his journey, he held the prestigious Chair of Chairman Services Tribunal, Government of Sindh.

After calling it a day to the high-profile offices, he joined hands with, Dr. S M Qureshi, and Lt. Col. Muhammad Khalid Khan, Retd, TI (M) in forming a Society (Majeed, Shams, Khalid) acronym: ‘MSK’ Society for Advancement of Learning and, jointly, laid the foundation of HiAST (Hyderabad Institute of Arts, Science & Technology).  

Lt. Col. Muhammad Khalid Khan, Retd, TI (M)

The officer was commissioned in 24th Battalion of the Baluch Regiment, in December, 1971, and after rendering 28 years of meritorious service, retired in December 1999. He is a graduate of Command & Staff College, Quetta, having varied experience of Command and staff and recipient of TI (M).
